The eastern cottontail thrives in Louisville's suburbs - the edge habitat created by lawns, landscaping beds and privacy fences is actually better rabbit habitat than deep woods. Cottontails produce three to four litters a year in Kentucky, from late February through September, and they often dig shallow nests right in the middle of open lawns.
